Candy Effect Spray is a translucent paint that comes as an aerosol. You can use it on a few different materials, including metal, glass, and plastic. It’s used inside or outside, and it’s available in a handful of vibrant and fun colours.
In this blog, I’m going to talk about using Maston Candy Effect Aerosol on glass. I’ll talk you through the different steps you should take and finish off with a video.
Using candy effect spray isn’t rocket science, but there are a couple of points that you need to consider. Follow these steps and you won’t go far wrong.

Painting Glass with Candy Effect Spray
Prepare your work area
I know it sounds obvious, but we may as well mention it. Put some dust sheets or cardboard down in the area you intend to work and cover all furniture. The material can travel in the atmosphere and settle a few metres away from where you’re working, so it’s better to be safe and cover anything close by.
Clean the glass
Paint will not stick to grease and other toxins, so you need to thoroughly clean the glass before you can paint it. Poor some methylated spirits onto a cloth and wipe everything down. The spirits will evaporate within minutes.
Abrade the surface
Glass is completely smooth, which means it’s difficult to get anything to stick to it. Use some very fine sandpaper to abrade the surface. You don’t want to damage the glass, so go easy with it, but you do want to create a key (thousands of tiny scratches that gives the paint something to grip to).
Wipe again
Abrading the surface does create a small amount of dust, so you will need to wipe the surface again.
Apply the paint
I opt for Maston Candy Effect Spray, simply because it’s a quality product. Shake well and then apply. The nozzle should be roughly 25cm away from the glass and always keep the tin moving when dispensing. If you pause, the paint will pool and run.
The first coat should be particularly thin, but it can sag and run on any coat if you apply too much material. So, apply multiple thin coats.
Maston Candy Effect has a recoat time of 3 minutes, and it’s easy to apply, so multiple coats aren’t an issue. 3 coats on bare glass is all you need.
Allow to dry
Maston Candy Effect Spray is touch dry after 20 minutes, but it takes 24 hours to fully harden. So be careful around your painted glass for a period until it becomes durable.
