I would not normally review something as mundane as sandpaper, but Axus Arystox does stand out from others in the industry. Available online by clicking here, you can buy Axus Arystox in sheet form, on a roll, as sponge pads, and as sanding blocks. Various grades are available.

The Product

Axus Arystox is unlike anything I have used before. It is a ceramic oxide abrasive, using technology adapted from other industries. As far as I am aware, this is the first time this technology has been used in the decorating industry.

The grit has a microcrystalline, self-sharpening structure, so tiny pieces break away as you sand, revealing new sharp edges. The difference between this and ordinary abrasives is that this process continues until all the abrasive particles have been used. As a result, the abrasive remains sharp from the moment it is new until it is worn out; it does not gradually lose its cutting ability.

The mineral is also very hard, so it cuts through surfaces much more rapidly, reducing the effort required. Finally, the fracturing particles are so small that it takes a very long time for them to break down completely, resulting in an abrasive with exceptional longevity.

My Axus Arystox Review

Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? As a decorator, I have been using Axus Arystox for a few weeks now. Until I tried it, I assumed all sandpaper was the same. Now I know differently.

Axus Arystox is indeed sharper, which does not necessarily mean it rips a surface to bits. However, it does mean sanding a surface is a lot easier and quicker. You really notice the difference when working for prolonged periods.

Axus Arystox seems to go for miles too. One pad can be used continuously for hours without needing to be replaced. So, not only are you saving on labour, but you are also saving money on materials. Click here for more information or to see current prices.

FAQs

What sandpaper gives the smoothest finish?

The higher the grade, or grit, of your sandpaper, the smoother the finish. As a decorator, I might use 240-grit or 360-grit abrasive when trying to achieve a very smooth finish. Car painters use even finer abrasives, sometimes up to 2,000 grit.

Who makes the best sandpaper?

I genuinely believe that Axus Décor Arystox is the best abrasive on the market. It does not clog very easily, and the ceramic oxide abrasive stays sharp for longer.

What is the most useful grit sandpaper?

120-grit sandpaper will do most jobs. It is suitable for sanding previously painted surfaces and primed wood. You can make it slightly less aggressive by rubbing it against a brick. That way, you can use it to de-nib between coats of paint.

What is better than sandpaper?

Chocolate cake is better than sandpaper. But if cake is not an option, sanding pads are more comfortable to hold than traditional sandpaper and are great for sanding flat surfaces. Wire wool is often better than sandpaper for abrading varnished and stained wood.

What sandpaper is best between coats?

Use a fine abrasive between coats. Either 240-grit or 360-grit.

I found this stuff was like toilet paper, tears if you look at it. Produces a lot of mess from grit loss as well. Bought a massive roll on strength of this review. Very disappointed
