Construction specialist, Construct 10, were contracted to work on a new housing development in Chichester consisting of 21 three and four bed homes. To deliver a clean, contemporary interior, ready for the new homeowners to move into, Construct 10 looked to Valspar Trade Tough Matt and Direct to Wood and Metal paints.

First established in 2006, Construct 10 is a specialist construction firm based in Chichester, West Sussex, with the aim of creating high-quality builds. Predominantly working on both smaller housing refurbishments and extensions all the way up to larger developments, the company prides itself on completing projects from the ground up. One such project was the Plainwood development in Chichester, which consisted of 21 family homes.

Jamie Ratcliffe, part of the construction staff at Construct 10, was involved in decorating these homes, as he explains further: “I’m part of the plastering and insulation team, we ensure all properties are completed and decorated to a high standard. As we are predominantly responsible for the entire build process, speed and efficiency is key, ensuring we can meet client deadlines and deliver on a high-quality finish.

“For this reason, our preference is to apply paint using a sprayer. Not only does it speed up the decorating process, but it provides a more uniform and even finish. We’d trialled several different brands through our spray gun, but a lot of them came out very chalky or would need significant dilution to achieve the desired viscosity. However, this wasn’t an issue with Valspar Trade – we can just open the tub, put it under the gun and get to work.”

As a water-based emulsion, Valspar Trade paint is formulated with spray applications in mind, with the Tough Matt and Vinyl Matt paint requiring no dilution for use in spray guns.

Jamie continued: “Carmelita Teixeira, our local Trade Sales Specialist, introduced us to Valspar Trade, and we quickly found it to be far superior to any other brands we’d used before. The coverage and finish achieved is brilliant. One coat often looks like it’s finished, meaning we never need more than two coats to complete a room.

“Its low spatter is another benefit, meaning once we’ve set up in a room and we’re painting the walls and ceilings, we aren’t getting paint drip or flick down onto us. We use 12-inch fans in our spray gun, which can create a lot of mess. However, with Valspar Trade we’re saved this hassle, keeping everything that little bit cleaner for when we’re done.”

Whilst working on the Plainwood Development and other recent housing projects, Jamie and the team have been using Valspar Trade Tough Matt and Direct to Wood and Metal paint in Pure Brilliant White.

Jamie commented: “The Tough Matt product is ideal for us. It’s available pre-mixed in Pure Brilliant White and the colour looks lovely once sprayed on, as well as being very long-lasting. In fact, we have a development we worked on last year using Valspar Trade where the white surfaces still look good to this day.

“The same can be said for the Direct to Wood and Metal paint, which we also spray on. It has a really nice finish to it and goes on brilliantly. It’s the perfect solution for when we’re trying to get those last little details completed, like skirting boards.”

The Plainwood development is just one example of a project that Jamie and the Construct 10 team have used Valspar Trade on.
