Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill is a relatively new filler. I have been using it for the past few weeks after a rep at the Scottish Decorating Show introduced it to me. You can get this product in ready-mixed, or powder version. I’ll go through both versions individually, or you can click here to see a full Toupret filler review and guide.
Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill Ready Mixed Filler
The “ready to use” version of this product is good to depths of up to 5mm, but you can apply multiple coats for deeper repairs. You can pick up a 10KG bucket online for around £40 including VAT, which represents good value for money. You must wait at least 12 hours before painting over Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill Ready Mixed Filler. As with all Toupret fillers, you will not experience any issues with flashing.

The filler is very smooth and creamy, with a consistency that I can only describe as ‘perfect for the job’. This makes it very easy to apply and you do not have any issues with sagging, so you can shape it as you like.
Drying time isn’t too bad, although the 12-hour wait before you can paint over the repair is a pain really. For me, ready mixed filler comes into its own for the minor repairs that you miss after your first coat of emulsion, so an extended curing period isn’t ideal. Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill Ready Mixed Filler does shrink a bit as it dries, which is why I assume Toupret advise you only use it to depths of up to 5mm. Providing you stick to those instructions, you will not notice the problem.
Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill Ready Mixed filler is easy to sand, which is another positive. All told, I do think this filler is one of the best ready mixed products on the market, and one I will continue to use.
Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill Powder Filler Review

OK, the powder version. The rep I spoke to regarding this product told me it was “Toupret’s answer to Gyproc Easi-fill”. I can tell you now that he’s wrong! The two products are noticeably different to each other.
Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill “Quick Dry” has a working time of 40 minutes and can be painted after 3 hours. One fantastic capability of this filler is it can be used on repairs of any depth. I find it very easy to mix and even easier to apply. Once mixed, it makes a latex type of paste which is a dream to use. It is perfect for using over large areas as it smooths out like nothing I’ve ever used before.
Toupret Joint, Skim & Fill powder filler does not slump as it dries, meaning even large repairs can often be made using only one coat. As with the previous product, there is no flashing after you’ve painted over the repair.
The only potential drawback I can see is it dries solid, meaning it is difficult to sand. This isn’t a massive issue for me as I have good quality dust-free sanding machines, but I think muggles (non-decorating folk) would struggle.
Still, a quality product. Better than easi-fill in a lot of ways. Click here to see online prices.
Best Tools to Apply Toupret Filler
I thought I’d end by listing a few of the tools needed to easily apply filler to internal walls, ceilings, and trim.
The first thing you’re going to need is a set of filling knives. These are a little bit like scrapers, but they have some flexibility and they’re thinner at the business end. This helps when working material like Toupret Filler onto a surface. I’m going to recommend the Rollingdog set, simply because they’re well-made and reasonably priced. You’re also going to need a plastic kettle to mix powder filler, as it’s a lot easier than mixing it on a board. Click here to see prices. Other than that, I think you’re good to go.
Toupret head and shoulders above the rest. No grinning alone is worth any small extra cost.
The toupret fine surface filler excellent for large areas with caulking board, even fixes poor plastering it just seems to fill trowel marks without grinning.
Can anyone compare directly with Prestonett joint filler as I’ve been using that for years for skim coating walls but always interested in trying something new. The Toupret looks to be more expensive.
