A charity that helps older people with their day-to-day needs is preparing to spruce up its Wandsworth facilities after receiving support from a leading DIY and decorating specialist.

Age UK Wandsworth has been gifted paint and decorating materials by Leyland’s Clapham Junction store on St John’s Hill.

The materials will be used to enhance Age UK Wandsworth’s Old York Road head office, where the charity runs a service to provide support to more than 50 people in person a day.

Frank Colley, Deputy Manager at Age UK Wandsworth’s Day Centre, said: “We’re so grateful to Leyland for their support.

“Our staff always work hard to create a welcoming environment for our visitors. We want it to be a warm building where people feel comfortable.

“Funding, though, is increasingly hard to come by so donations like this from Leyland make a huge difference and help to lift everyone’s spirits.

“This is the second time the Leyland team at Clapham Junction has stepped in to help us with materials. They are a wonderful bunch who have a genuine knowledge of DIY and decorating. It’s so refreshing to see a business getting involved with the local community.”

Services offered by Age UK Wandsworth include information and advice, companionship for people who are isolated, practical DIY help, a foot clinic and assistance with shopping.

Leyland has a long-standing commitment to serving the London community and has donated more than £10,000 worth of materials to good causes in the last 12 months.

Christophe Guillet, Leyland Clapham Junction Store Manager, said: “Age UK Wandsworth is a fantastic charity that works hard to help older people across the borough of Wandsworth.

“Leyland is committed to being at the heart of the communities around our 34 London stores. This is another example of how the business offers valuable support to good causes for the benefit of local people.

“I’m sure this re-decoration project will make a big difference to the people who use the charity’s services.”

Leyland stores are found in prominent locations across London, stocking a comprehensive range of products, including paint and decorating essentials, tools, hardware, electrical and plumbing equipment and building materials.
