Crown Paints has reaffirmed its ongoing support for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture by donating 20,000 litres of specialist paint for the city’s ambitious BD:Walls street art programme throughout the year.
The BD:Walls initiative is transforming Bradford’s urban landscape with bold, beautiful murals created by internationally renowned artists and emerging local talent. Crown Paints has been at its heart, providing professional-grade products that ensure these stunning artworks brighten Bradford’s streets for years to come.
Crown’s Sandtex Trade Smooth Masonry paint and Crown Trade Vinyl Matt have been used across 13 striking murals completed in 2025, with two more still to come. The company has supported works including NeSpoon’s ‘The Portal’ – the artwork that launched BD:Walls in July 2024 – alongside a piece by Roids called ‘Mills to Hills’ at The Broadway, which celebrates the district’s textile history.
A comprehensive range of products has been used for the programme, including Crown Stabilising Solution for preparation, PX4 primer, Sandtex Trade Smooth Masonry paint for exteriors, and Crown Trade Vinyl Matt – ensuring each artwork has the foundation it needs to withstand the elements and maintain its vibrancy.
The programme has also created opportunities for emerging artists through its Talent Development Programme, with Crown supporting works including the artist cohort’s ‘Serving the District’ and MOD One’s ‘City of Dreams’ in Darley Street Market, alongside murals by Alastair Flindell, Sven Shaw, renowned Afghan artist Shamsia Hassani, Misc Etc, Jamie S, and Bonzai.
Russell Kitchen, Operations Support Manager at Crown Paints said: “We’re incredibly proud to support Bradford 2025 and play our part in transforming the city’s streets with the BD:Walls programme. These murals have brought colour and creativity to communities across Bradford, and it’s been inspiring to work alongside such talented artists. Our specialist Sandtex Trade and Crown Trade products are helping to ensure these stunning artworks will brighten Bradford for years to come.”
Dan Bates, Executive Director at Bradford 2025 said: “Crown Paints has been a fantastic partner throughout our BD:Walls programme. Their generous support and technical expertise have been essential in helping us create these stunning murals across Bradford. It’s brilliant to work with a company that understands the power of colour and creativity to transform communities and bring people together.”
This donation marks the latest step in Crown Paints’ ongoing commitment to supporting local communities through colour and design. Earlier this year, Crown announced a new partnership with Mind to help raise awareness, reduce stigma, and fund vital mental health services across the UK.
Bradford 2025 is celebrating the city’s rich cultural diversity, creativity and heritage through a year-long programme of events spanning dance, theatre, film, music and visual arts. The BD:Walls project exemplifies the ambition of Bradford’s year as UK City of Culture, transforming unused spaces into vibrant murals that bring colour and inspiration to residents and visitors alike.
