Hanford & Green Acrylic Satin is an incredibly tough interior and exterior paint for walls and woodwork, with a lustrous, velvety finish. Surfaces are easily washed and have high scrub and mould growth resistance, making it ideal for use in wet areas, high-use areas and where maintaining hygiene is important. What’s more, no undercoat is required when using Acrylic Satin on previously painted surfaces, and it can be used as a mist coat for sealing new plaster, plasterboard and jointing compound prior to applying topcoats. This means one product is all you need and therefore saves labour and product costs.

My Experience Using Hanford & Green ACRYLIC SATIN

I have been using water-based trim paints for the past five years, so I’m always excited to see new products. After reading about this one, it ticked all the boxes – Class 1 scrub rated, quick drying, good sheen level etc. I used this in my downstairs toilet at home as I was preparing the room to be wallpapered. I applied the first coat of satin on the door & trim over previously painted water-based paint. There was also some new plywood pipe boxing, primed using acrylic primer.

I was impressed with the whiteness of the paint and its opacity, as normally white can be disappointing, but this was good. The paint flowed very nicely by brush and roller. After 90 minutes I applied the second coat, as it does say this is achievable after one hour. Normally though you feel a drag at his point, but this was dry and the second coat applied as flawlessly as the first.

After two hours of drying, I was able to wallpaper the room, wiping off the paste residue with ease and no marks visible on the paintwork. Overall, I was very impressed. To be able to apply two coats and wallpaper in a short space of time is very impressive.

For my next tes,t I painted two coats on a piece of wood. Left it for two weeks and applied a few stains to test the class 1. Each stain was only on the sample for 10 minutes.

Stain 1: Curry –  this failed to scrub leaving a visible stain.

Stain 2: Coffee –  again failed as you can still see a faint coffee stain.

Stain 3:  Non-permanent pen (a white board marker) – this failed too.

Although heavy scrubbing with warm, soapy water did no damage to the paint, but unfortunately the stains remained.

Application: Brush (Fossa Viper Trim) and mini roller (Two Fussy Blokes).

Overall, This has its positives: it is an eco-friendly paint that has a great opacity, and the drying and recoat time is fantastic. However, lack of stockists and not good on stains has to be a big negative.

Good review – it’s always useful to see the negative aspects of new products. Plus points are the fast drying times and the high sheen of the gloss. As an acrylic though, it can’t claim to be eco friendly as it repies on the petro-chemical industry for the actylic. Water based is a start but the acrylic and the chemicals used as anti microbials are something we need to be moving away from eventually.

Healthier than oil – based but not eco friendly.
