When Smith & Rodger heard of a scout troop in need of some help, they knew they had just the product to solve the problem.
The 1st Emmbrook Scouts – based in Wokingham in Berkshire – have been meeting in their hut for almost sixty years; about 16 years ago, a new floor was installed, made from oil-tempered hardboard.
Unfortunately, over the years it has endured more than its fair share of wear and tear – the hut is home to two scout troops, two cub packs and two packs of beavers, so it gets heavily used every night of the week. Sadly, the floor is never going to look immaculate again, but the scout leaders wanted something that would protect it from the rigours of various scouting activities for years to come.
Rocktop to the rescue! With its hard-wearing, quick-drying formulation, Smith & Rodger’s Rocktop Clearcoat was the ideal product to protect the scout hut floor from everything the scouts will throw at it in the months and years ahead. Because it is water-based and quick-drying, local firm Wokingham Decorating Services found they were able to get two coats on in a day, meaning that the job could be finished in time for the start of the new term in September.
An email received from the scouts reads: “1st Emmbrook Scout Group (Wokingham) would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Smith & Rodger for their generous donation of varnish to support the floor refurbishment of the Scout Headquarters. In conjunction with the support of Wokingham Decorating Services (WDS) the donation has transformed the Scout HQ, which is central to the weekly fun and adventure of 145 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts”.
