My Dulux Trade SprayMatt Review

I’m going to go on record and say that it’s pretty easy to spray any contract matt, and most other contract matts are far cheaper than Dulux Trade SprayMatt. However, you genuinely notice the difference when using SprayMatt.

It produces an extremely fine spray, but more importantly, there is noticeably less overspray in the atmosphere. Dulux say it has 30% less overspray compared to Supermatt, and while I have no way of measuring overspray myself, I can assure you that it feels like more.

You can spray two coats of Dulux Trade SprayMatt on a ceiling (wet on wet), then within 10 minutes you can stand in the room and have a conversation with someone. There’s less powder on your skin after spraying, which means less on your sheets and any tools you have in the room.

The finish of Dulux Trade SprayMatt is a very low-sheen ‘flat matt’, which is very desirable. You won’t see any defects like flashing, even on the most light-critical of ceilings.

The only real downside is the cost. The shelf price at Dulux Decorator Centre is over £50 excluding the VAT (which is roughly the same as Dulux Trade Supermatt, which is AkzoNobel’s other premium contract matt). But the Armstead Trade Contract Matt is half the price.

That said, you use less paint with SprayMatt because less of it is being wasted, it atomises more easily, and it’s less messy. For me, as a Professional Decorator, it makes a lot of sense for me to upgrade. I work in peoples’ homes after all, and anything that reduces mess in someone’s property, or paint-filled air on a building site, is easily worth an extra £25 per bucket.
