The Axus Décor Flex E Scuttle Liner is a silicone insert that fits inside a paint scuttle. The material itself is a coated silicone, which means paint won’t stick to it. The idea is that you can use the scuttle liner when painting, remove as much paint as you can at the end of the day, allow the remainder to dry, then crumple and remove the dried paint the next day. A quick dust out, and it’s ready to use again.
These go alongside the Flex-E-Liner, which is a similar product but fits inside paint kettles, and the Flex-E-Bowle, which is a great product for mixing filler in.
Flex E Scuttle Liners are available in 2.5L, 5L, and 15L to fit the standard-size scuttles, and you can pick them up online from places like Decorating Centre Online by clicking here.
My Axus Décor Flex E Scuttle Liner Review
There are two different types of decorators in the world: those that clean their scuttles after every use, and those that let paint build up in them, then throw them away after a few dozen uses.
Neither one of these methods is ideal. Cleaning wet paint from any tool can be messy, so trying to do that in a customer’s sink or bath, or taking it home and trying to clean them when the paint is semi-dry, can be a nightmare. If you go the other way (like I do) and throw the scuttle away after letting the paint build up, then it’s rather wasteful.
That’s why the Axus Décor Flex E Scuttle Liner was brought to market. It’s an easy way to clean scuttles after every use. This makes decorating more eco-friendly, cleaner, and easier.
They work fantastically well too. The video below shows how easy it is to clean Juno J33 OPAK (which has the durability of a vinyl matt paint) out of the liner. It takes seconds. Then you just need to dust it out before using it again.
The only downside is the price; you’re looking at just over £30 for a single liner. As a decorator, I could do with six in circulation to keep me going, but £150 on scuttle liners is a bit much. That said, I can justify buying two or three of them.
Besides which, I think they’ll last. £30 isn’t expensive if they’re going to last for a few years. Even £150 for six isn’t expensive really, especially if it means I don’t need to clean or throw away another scuttle in that time.

Conclusion
It’s a great bit of kit, and something that a lot of decorators will start using. There was something similar on the market a few years ago called the Cre8tive Scuttle Liner, but the company disappeared suddenly. I can remember thinking that I wished I’d bought loads of them while they were available.
Axus Décor Flex E Scuttle Liners are slightly better. Paint comes off easier than it did with the Cre8tive liners. Either way, I’m glad we can get hold of silicone liners again. They definitely have their place in a decorator’s toolbox.
