WRX Acrylic Primer Undercoat Review

By Mike Gregory

WRX are the new, up and coming paint brand in the UK. I’ve been using them for roughly a year as part of my position as a professional decorator. I was lucky enough to get hold of some of their new acrylic primer to try out, so I figured I’d put pen to paper and write an WRX acrylic primer undercoat review. You can see what I think about the rest of their range here.

The WRX primer undercoat is used on bare timber and MDF. It acts as part of the prep before applying additional coats. You’ll find the paint unusually thin, which helps eliminate brush marks on flat surfaces.

I was a little bit worried at just how thin this primer is, but when you use it, you soon realise that opacity isn’t an issue at all. The paint flies on and seems to go for miles. Adhesion seems good too, as it is with all WRX products. I tried a test patch over existing oil-based gloss to find it dried solid!!

Another plus point of the WRX primer undercoat is it seals the edges of MDF with ease, meaning you can then sand it flat!! Anyone who is used to decorating will tell you this is a rare quality!!

WRX Trade paint is starting to pop up at loads of different independent paint merchants. You can buy it directly from WRX by clicking here. I generally buy a lot of my paint from TopDec Decorating supplies.
