Vickie Mather, Dulux Academy and Dulux Select Decorator Lead, said: “These are challenging times for many within the industry against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, so we’re delighted to be able to spread good cheer and recognise the achievements of our Dulux Select Decorators, showcasing the best of the best. The standard of entries this year was extremely high. Huge congratulations go to all our category winners who have consistently gone above and beyond – whether they are bringing colour into people’s homes or developing the next generation of talent. Dean Barguss is a worthy recipient of the ‘Grand Winner’ prize – his attention to detail, customer care and excellent work all shone through for the judges.

“We’re always very proud to recognise women at the awards, as part of our ongoing commitment to encouraging more females to enter the sector.  This year is no exception with success for Steph Howles, Rose Morris and Nicola Lewis and Rachel Bates. Women make up just 4.8% of painters and decorators. The Dulux Academy continues to work to highlight the benefits of choosing painting and decorating as a profession, as well as offering flexible online and face-to-face training courses so that female decorators can fit their development around family and other commitments.

“In the current climate, we know it’s more important than ever for Dulux to continue its support for the painting and decorating industry. The Dulux Select Decorator programme is just one part of this, giving top-quality professionals the opportunity to take their business to the next level. A big thank you to all our sponsors including Dulux Decorator Centres, as well as other suppliers, Tesa, Mirka, Graco and Vista Digital, who were all in attendance and supplied raffle prizes.”

Dean Barguss commented: “I’m over the moon to receive the ‘Grand Winner’ recognition. The awards are a fantastic way to bring the decorating community together and it’s an absolute honour to win, especially given the high level of competition. I love working with my customers, some of which I’ve worked with for 20 years or more, to bring their decorating dreams to life, advising them on the best colours and materials to use, and bringing them a high-quality finish that they can enjoy for years.

“The Dulux Select Decorators membership is a badge of honour that people respect. It also opens doors to learning new skills via The Dulux Academy and creates a forum with other professionals where we can share knowledge. I’m looking forward to being an ambassador for Dulux Select Decorators across the country.”

The Dulux Select Decorators category prize winners received £500 in Dulux Decorator Centre vouchers alongside an accessories bundle and a professional photoshoot to advertise their business.

A Movember* charity raffle on the night also raised £1,150, to help support men’s mental and physical health.
