I can only give you my Tikkurila Pro-Center and paint review based on my own personal experience. I do use Tikkurila products a lot and to be honest they are completely different to any other brand on the British market. For more information on Tikkurila, click here.
Tikkurila Pro Center Review
Before I get into the product reviews, let’s look at the Pro Center. As far as I know there is one in Edinburgh and another in St Helens (near Liverpool). Even though you can buy Tikkurila products online, plus plenty of independent paint outlets, I think the Pro Center represents Tikkurila well as a brand.
The first impressions as you walk in are, everything looks clean, clinical, and very modern. Stacks of modern and exotic sounding paints from floor to ceiling. Water-based technology pushed as far as it can go and a lot of products which are designed with the sprayer in mind. If you’re thinking about dipping your toe into the Tikkurila pool for the first time, we do have a full product comparison list which will come in very handy.
You’ll find all the latest spray equipment on display from Tritech, including the T5 which is a mighty machine!! Not many other paint outlets have spare tips and filters in stock, ready to take out there and then.
As well as the sprayers, you’ll find an assortment of Festool sanders. Again, these are mostly in stock and ready to take out there and then. Plus you have spare sanding pads and extraction bags, so the Pro Centre can keep you and your Festool serviced going forward.
The staff are inviting and well trained. Free tea and coffee, even bacon sandwiches and a seating area. I’m not exaggerating when I say this, but it’s the most impressive paint outlet I have ever seen. Trade credit accounts are available.
Summary
Tikkurila Pro Center Review
Tikkurila paint has been in the UK for over 10 years now and has proven very popular with Professional Decorators. The Pro Centers are located in Edinburgh and St Helens and are a hub for all things Tikkurila.
Product Brand: Tikkurila
4.2
Pros
- Modern
- Well stocked
- Helpful staff
- Awesome paint
Cons
- There are only two locations in the UK.
- They don’t sell any other brands of paint. While this makes sense on paper, as a Decorator, you can’t rely on them as your only trade counter.
Tikkurila Paint Review
I’ll quickly run through some on the paint products you’ll find at Tikkurila Pro Center. I can’t talk about every product, nor can I go into any great detail for each, otherwise this ‘short blog’ will turn into half a million words. We do have a more comprehensive review that you can view by clicking here.
Tikkurila Helmi Review
Helmi is a water-based satin, eggshell and gloss system. You will need to use either Otex, Multi Stop or Helmi Primer for adhesion. It is a poor product to use by brush, but absolutely amazing when applied via airless sprayer. It is very easy to achieve an outstanding finish.
Tikkurila Multi Stop Review
Multi Stop acts as a primer/undercoat, but it also blocks out stains!! So much so you don’t need to prime your knots, I kid you not!! It also smells lovely, although it’s quite pricey and it has an extended recoat time which can be a pain.
Tikkurila Anti-Reflex Review
Anti-Reflex was voted the best white emulsion to use on a ceiling by the Decorators Forum UK. It is a dull, luxurious white that hides imperfections and roller marks. The opacity isn’t great, but the finish is stunning! Really cheap as well. Oh, and it’s durable!!
Tikkurila Optiva 5 Review
Another amazing product, especially considering the cheap price tag. Optiva 5 is a durable emulsion with a 5% sheen level (matt). The opacity and finish are amazing! I don’t like the white, but any colour and you will love the results. The overall finish and durability of this emulsion are brilliant.
Tikkurila Optiva Colour Review
Optiva Colour is basically vinyl matt emulsion. The new formula is a lot better than the old. Opacity and finish are ok, price is good. I wouldn’t say it was one of the better vinyl matts out there though.
Tikkurila Vinyl Matt Review
This is the newest product from Tikkurila and its priced competitively against its Dulux and Johnstone’s counterparts. It may be a similar price, but the quality of Tikkurila vinyl matt is far superior. Opacity, ease of use and overall finish are all spot on! This is a lovely paint, and one I use on a regular basis.
