This is a Rant About Not Being Paid

By William Giles

Clients ask me as a decorator to do some decorating. So, I travel to their home, speak to them, all the time being very polite, asking what decoration they are looking for etc. Then I go away and figure out a price. They accept the price, great! 🙂 Or is it? I pick up the materials and put the cost on my account, finish the job, they check it over and they are happy. There is sometimes a little bit of snagging, but the overall job is done.

So why the hell don’t they had over the cash, or bank transfer when I’m finished?? Why does it take them weeks and coming out with excuses for them not paying?

This is the only thing I hate about running my business

Take 25 /30% deposit and payment by bacs on day of completion. Subject to snags so they can walk the job b4 u finish. Ideally on completion.

It’s a liberty😡

This is the reason I’m seriously thinking of going off to a local council for another job.

Invoice a client to be told they are going on holiday soon and will pay when they get back.

I had the same, been 2 weeks on day rate then she drops in the conversation that she had to drop the dogs to the kennels so I say why, “oh we are away tomorrow for 2 weeks” 😱   I think people who have money think everybody has money and can wait a month to get paid. But real life isn’t like that.

I was once told be an old decorator it’s the worst trade because we come in at the end of the build when all the money has been spent and they are skint. The longer I do this the more I realise he was right
