Family fun, fang-tastic competitions, treats and just a few tricks were the order of the day as Leyland staged a Halloween themed event to open its new Belsize Park store.

The leading decorating and DIY specialist invited members of the public to 147-151 Haverstock Hill to celebrate the arrival of its 35th London store.

Mayor of Camden, Councillor Samata Khatoon, cut the ribbon on the store, which has created eight new jobs, boosted the local economy and added additional convenience for both tradespeople and home improvers.

Martin Hastings, CEO of Leyland, said: “We are delighted to officially open our Belsize Park store. We like to create a buzz when we open in a new location, and it was fantastic to see so many people having fun and finding out what we have to offer the area.

“All Leyland stores have an incredibly wide range of products, offering unmatched convenience and service to professional tradespeople carrying out jobs in the area as well as local residents taking on their own DIY projects, big or small.

“All of this is backed up by the first-class knowledge of our colleagues, who are on-hand to help with any query.

“This store is in a prime location and we look forward to serving the local community for many years to come.”

Free facepainting was on offer to children enjoying their half term break, while there were competitions for shoppers to win prizes including a DeWalt drill and Spearhead screwdriver sets.

Those who correctly guessed the contents of spooky mystery boxes were put into a draw for the chance to win £250 of store credit.

Meanwhile, community groups in the Belsize Park area have until November 4 to apply for their share of a £2,500 support fund to spend on a project of their choice. Applications can be made in-store by scanning the QR code on promotional posters or by going to Leyland’s website www.leylandsdm.co.uk/locallift-belsizepark.

Leyland has now opened 10 new stores across the capital in the last four years, creating almost 100 jobs.

The Belsize Park store benefits from all the products Leyland is renowned for, including a vast selection of paints from leading brands such as Dulux, Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Johnstone’s and Leyland Trade – all with on-site colour mixing.

Additionally, it is the first Leyland store to offer Benjamin Moore paint. The store will also stock a huge range of other items including decorating essentials, fillers, woodcare, tools, cleaning products, plumbing and timber.

The building was previously a fireplace showroom, and before that a bank, but has been unoccupied for some time.

Leyland Belsize Park is open from 6.30am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
