Purdy Painter’s Storage Box Review

Posted Mar 17, 2025 | Tools | 0 comments

The Purdy Painter’s Storage Box was developed with Painters and Decorators in mind. It’s made from rigid plastic and is sectioned into three different compartments.

The top compartment is for smaller tools like scrapers, filling knives, dust brushes etc. The second section is for your brushes and rollers. The roller sleeves go at the back, and the brushes hang on hooks that are placed on rails. This keeps everything off the floor and neat.

The bottom section is for your bulkier items like filler, roller frames, a hammer etc.

It all stacks and clips together on a trolly-type base, ready to wheel to or from your job. There’s a space for your roller poles at the back, meaning the toolbox carries almost everything you need for most decorating jobs.

I’m going to write a quick Purdy Painter’s Storage Box review based on my experience as a Professional Decorator and having owned one for the past 6-months.

My Review

I love it! It’s quite possibly the best toolbox for Decorators on the market. When you first see it, you think that there’s too much plastic and it’s going to be flimsy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s solid! The catches are solid too.

I can’t speak for the longevity of it, because I’ve only owned the toolbox for 6 months or so, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t last for years. It’s extremely well made.

My only little gripe is that there are no air holes in the middle section. This means that if you store your brushes while they’re still damp after cleaning, then they can start to smell of mould after a while. This is only a small gripe though.

Some stockists sell the Purdy Painter’s Storage Box for over £200, which is a lot for a toolbox, but you get what you pay for. It probably isn’t worth the investment if you’re a DIY enthusiast, but if you’re a Professional Decorator, Handyman, or Multi Trade, then it’s worth every penny.

Why a Purdy Painter’s Storage Box Makes Such a Big Difference

We Decorators carry an awful lot with us to and from a job. We generally move our tools into a property, set up a base, then work from that. The Purdy Painter’s Storage Box has been a bit of a revelation for me; not just because it means less trips to the van when setting up, but it keeps me organised.

Before I got a Purdy Painter’s Storage Box, I had one little toolbox, and I carried the rest of my tools in paint scuttles. I’d still have everything I needed on the job, but sometimes it would take me 10 minutes to find what I was looking for.

Everything has its place in a Purdy Painter’s Storage Box. I know that if I need a scraper or screwdriver, then I should look in the top compartment, all my brushes are in the middle, and heavy items are in the bottom. I don’t leave anything in the van anymore, and I don’t waste time searching for things.

All I do now is bring my dust sheets in, my sander, the paint, and my Purdy Painter’s Storage Box, and I know I’ve got absolutely everything I need. The toolbox is easy to transport, then when it’s on the base, I just separate the compartments and work directly from them until it’s time to pack up and move out.

It’s genuinely made a huge difference to my working life.

If you don’t have a trade account with DDC, then you might be better ordering online. I’ll link a few suppliers below, but feel free to shop around and find the best price.
