Leyland SDM helps pupils take centre stage for return to school

A Fulham primary school has benefitted from a summer spruce-up ahead of the pupils’ return to school – thanks to support from London’s leading DIY and decorating retailer.

Leyland SDM, which has 33 stores across the capital, provided a team of volunteers to spend a week carrying out work at All Saints C of E Primary School in Fulham during the summer holidays, as well as donating more than £2,000 of paint and other products and materials.

The volunteers focused their time on improving the stage area at the school – which has 203 pupils from nursery through to year six and is based on Bishops Avenue – as well as painting the corridors in the school’s traditional colour of green.

Kieran Gorman, head teacher at All Saints, said the work carried out by the Leyland SDM volunteers would make a significant difference.

He said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the work that the team from Leyland SDM has carried out for us over the summer, as well as the generous product donation.

“Budgets and funding are challenging for schools across the board and it’s difficult for us to do the non-essential maintenance work we would like.

“The stage area is a real focus for our school as we place a big emphasis on drama and public speaking, particularly since Covid, to help build up the confidence of the children.
“To see the corridors being painted in school colours brings a sense of pride and it will help when we welcome the children back to school.

“It’s also much more pleasant showing current and prospective parents a school which is bright and fresh rather than looking a little weary so we can’t thank Leyland SDM and their people enough.”

Around 15 colleagues from Leyland SDM attended the school during the volunteering week, including some from its Putney store based on Upper Richmond Road, with its Fulham Road store supplying materials throughout the week.

Naivasha Elworthy, marketing manager for Leyland SDM said: “The project really captured the imagination of our colleagues and it was great to see the work develop throughout the week.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere generated by the volunteers and, as well as working hard to give the school the best result we could, everyone really enjoyed their time at All Saints.

“To be able to get out into the local community and make an impact on the school was very fulfilling and hopefully the children will be excited to see the changes when they return.”

Leyland SDM has grown to become one of the most recognisable and trusted decorating and DIY companies in central London with 33 stores in prominent locations across the city.

Some of the biggest and best-known DIY brands are available at Leyland SDM, including Farrow & Ball, Tesa, Bahco, Bosch, Purdy, Dulux Trade, Leyland Trade, Stanley, Ronseal and DEWALT, as well as 120 different timber options.
