Dulux Trade Weathershield Gloss Review

Dulux Trade Weathershield gloss is an oil-based paint system developed for exterior trim such as windows, doors, soffits and facias. You can buy this paint from any Dulux Decorating Centre, but unless you’re entitled to a trade discount, it will almost certainly be cheaper to buy this product online by clicking here. It is available in white, black, or any colour from the vast range at Dulux. Recoat time is approximately 16 hours, but that can be extended if you’re working during the colder months.

You must use the correct system when dealing with exterior products, simply because the material needs to cope with the weather, so adhesion and flexibility are paramount. Dulux recommend one coat of Weathershield undercoat, followed by two coats of Weathershield gloss on any previously painted surface. This gives the finish the flexibility needed to last for years. Most decorators I know skip the last coat of Weathershield gloss and to be fair, the paint system still holds up. Bare timber should be primed with Weathershield primer.

My Dulux Trade Weathershield Gloss Review

OK, lets get down to my personal views. I’m a decorator who has used just about every exterior paint brand in the UK. When it comes to gloss, Dulux Trade Weathershield is my favourite.

You can dilute the undercoat slightly to help with the flow, but remember to pile it on. The more paint you can get on an exterior surface, the longer it is likely to last. Ease of use is fantastic, and once you have completed your prep, you’ll find the paint just flies on.

Opacity is good too. The grey undercoat will cover any colour in one coat. Changing from a dark colour to white can take extra coats, but that is the same with any brand. Brush marks can sometimes be a pain on low, flat surfaces. A lot of decorators will roll Dulux Weathershield gloss on, then lay it off with a brush. This works well when painting doors, but isn’t needed on soffits and facias.

The two best things about Dulux Weathershield gloss are the overall finish and the longevity of the product. You expect a gloss to be shiny and stand proud! The sheen level of Dulux Weathershield is spectacular, especially in a tinted colour.

The longevity of this product is something I’m 100% certain of. I have used this paint on exterior jobs local to me for years, mostly for regular customers. I can tell you that if you follow the system, this paint will look brand-new for a heck of a long time!! I really would recommend this product to anyone.
