Dulux Decorator Centre Supports Crash Charity Repaint for Herriot Hospice Homecare
Dulux Decorator Centre has joined forces with CRASH Charity to support Herriot Hospice Homecare in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, to transform the former Lambert Memorial Hospital into a facility for those living with terminal illness and bereavement. As a charity, CRASH focuses on supporting hospices and homelessness organisations with vital construction projects and Dulux Decorator Centre has been a Corporate Patron of the charity for the past 10 years, assisting with paint and specification needs.
During this latest project, Dulux Decorator Centre was called on to assist with the paint specification and donated all the paint needed for the project, bringing the hospice some much needed colour, and making it a comfortable space for all.
Herriot Hospice Homecare provides care and support to those living with terminal illness and bereavement across Hambleton and Richmondshire, through specialist care and support. To support the community further, it partnered with CRASH and Dulux Decorator Centre to turn the former Lambert Memorial Hospital into a hospice, offering inpatient care, bereavement support rooms, a café and community hub facility.
Split over two phases, the project required a complete refresh of the ground floor and first floor. To help with the redecoration the Dulux Decorator Centre team visited the site and offered an expert view on the best products for the job. Adam Lynch, Technical Support Manager at Dulux Decorator Centre said: “For this project, the durability of the paint was key to ensure that the surfaces could withstand regular knocks and scuffs and continue looking their best for longer – without the need for disruptive touch ups. Herriot Hospice Homecare and CRASH also wanted to use Brilliant White and Drifting Cloud (a cool neutral) across the facility, so it was important to select products that could be colour matched.
“To ensure that this was achievable, I recommended the use of Dulux Trade Mouldshield Fungicidal Matt for the bathrooms and wet rooms as it contains a special fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi and mould inside buildings – making it ideal for areas with high moisture. I also suggested Dulux Trade Diamond Matt for the communal corridors, bedrooms and kitchen thanks to its high durability and sustainability benefits. Finally, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt was selected for the ceilings and walls in quieter areas that didn’t require additional durability.”
The paint was donated by Dulux Decorator Centre in Harrogate. To ensure the smooth running of the project – and to make the process as easy as possible for Herriot Hospice Homecare – Dulux Decorator Centre arranged for the paint to be delivered to site as and when it was needed. This enabled the project to stay on schedule.
Vipesh Misry, Projects Manager at CRASH said: “It has been a pleasure to liaise with Dulux Decorator Centre on this project for Herriot Hospice. At CRASH we know that colour can completely transform a space, and I am grateful to the Dulux colour experts who visited this project and took the time to create a bespoke colour palette for Herriot Hospice – creating a safe, peaceful and relaxing place to be. On top of their invaluable expertise, Dulux Decorator Centre generously donated the paint at no charge to the hospice, meaning they can channel the savings into delivering their exceptional care.”
Speaking on the 10-year partnership, Francesca Roberts, Chief Executive at CRASH said: “Dulux Decorator Centre has been a valued Corporate Patron of CRASH for 10 years – an outstanding commitment to make. Dulux Decorator Centre’s annual Patron donation combined with its valued colour expertise and donated products have been helping homelessness charities and hospices across the UK for 10 years and helped thousands of people – we thank them for helping CRASH to construct places that care for people.”
Tony Collins, Herriot Hospice Homecare Chief Executive, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Dulux Decorator Centre in Harrogate for their contributions in ensuring Herriot Hospice at The Lambert is ready to serve our community, as well as to CRASH for their ongoing support. Without this fantastic support from our community, Herriot Hospice at The Lambert wouldn’t have been a possibility. We are proud of what we and our community have achieved together.”
