On August 4, Dulux Academy opened its doors for its much-loved Open House event, bringing painters and decorators together for a day of exploring what Dulux Academy has to offer, including meeting the expert team, networking with supplier partners and getting hands on with the latest tools and equipment.
The third year of the successful Open House took place at the Dulux Academy flagship facility in Slough, with a record 125 decorators and their guests in attendance. There was something for everyone, including buckets full of freebies, a BBQ and ice cream van, as well as opportunities to take part in exciting challenges, such as spin the wheel, bean bag throwing and a human fruit machine. There was also an array of great entertainment throughout the day with Fix Radio in attendance, a band, balloon artist – and, of course, the Dulux Dog was on hand for selfies.
The event was an opportunity for suppliers to showcase the products, equipment and services they provide. For example, the Graco Power Tour made a stop at the Open House to showcase its Ultra Quickshot spray tool for decorators to try their hand at. Attendees could also learn more about the vast range of Dulux products and services, such as the Dulux Trade paint portfolio, Dulux Select Decorator scheme and courses and training available at the Dulux Academy.
Vickie Mather, Dulux Academy Lead at AkzoNobel, commented: “Our Open House event is always a reminder that the UK decorating scene is a fantastic community. Fun and learning are at the core of the Open House, and it provides a relaxed opportunity for like-minded professionals to come and spend time together and speak with the Dulux Academy team. We loved seeing so many painters and decorators come together for a day of fun, to celebrate the dedication and creativity of the industry!

“This year we are delighted to share that we raised a total of £800 for the Rainy Day Trust at the Open House, as part of the charity raffle. A charity at the heart of the painting and decorating industry, the Rainy Day Trust provides support to individuals and families within the trade during times of financial hardship, and ensures they receive the support, assistance and resources needed to overcome difficulties.”
Speaking about the Open House, Ryan Jones from Mirka commented: “The main benefit of these events is that you get an idea of best practice from other decorators. You get to see what they’re doing that you might not be doing. You get to see and try out equipment that you may have seen online but want to see in person. Also, it’s genuinely a fun day out, permitting the UK weather holds up!”

Open House attendees, including Sam Gard, were delighted with the fun and camaraderie of the day, Dulux Select Decorator Sam who is owner of S.P. Gard Decorating said: “This is my first Open House event, and it’s been really good! There’s a great atmosphere here and it’s also interesting to see the latest products available, as well as trying products out before buying them. It’s great to be a part of the decorating community and spending a day with people in the same industry.”
