This year’s PDA Premier Trophy Awards saw decorators across the industry commended for their achievements, with Crown Paints supporting five winning and highly commended businesses on their journey to success.
The awards provided the perfect chance for the businesses to showcase their achievements over the past year, with many celebrating their work using Crown’s high-quality products.
Whiterock Decorators Ltd struck gold in the New Build category, with their transformation of a bespoke new university hall of residence at Enso Student Accommodation in Colchester. Thanks to the support of Crown’s expert colour specification team, the project was recognised for its unusual yet perfectly curated colour palette, with pastel blues and warm pinks used throughout in products including Crown Trade Clean Extreme, to create a bright and modern feel.
Meanwhile, Cousins Group achieved highly commended in the same category, with their extension of the main hospital cancer treatment and research centre at The Royal Marsden Hospital recognised for its high-quality finish.
The versality of Crown Trade products, and ability to adapt to the challenges of the most complex of buildings was also reflected in Mitie Property Services (UK) Ltd’s decoration and refurbishment of the 130-year-old Grade II Listed Combe Cliffe Conservatory in London, which received Very Highly Commended in the Decorative category. The technicality of the project was praised by judges, with Crown Trade products including Crown Trade High Performance Protective Gloss allowing the firm to adapt to the specificities of the historic building whilst upholding a high-quality finish.
This breadth of Crown’s portfolio was also reflected in Crown’s support of Story Decorating Group Ltd’s restoration of Our Lady Immaculate RC Church in Greater Manchester, after the 120-year-old building was left fire damaged and in need of reinstatement. In liaison with the priest, the contractor used Crown’s specification of shades to restore the church’s interior to its former beauty whilst keeping in line with fire and wider safety requirements, helping the project to secure Very Highly Commended in the Highly Decorative category.
And Crown’s support doesn’t stop with larger contractors, with their products also lifting Neil Bailey Decorating to Very Highly Commended in the Small Contractor category. The project saw Neil undertake the renovation of a derelict property in Oxford, with his high-quality finish and use of colour to create a premium feel highlighted by judges.
Kathryn Tormay, Head of Product at Crown Paints, commented: “At Crown, we’re committed to supporting decorators across the industry, and its brilliant to see so many succeeding with the help of our product specifications and expertise.
“It’s been a pleasure to supply our products to aid such wonderful projects, from the intricacies of a Grade II listed conservatory to the technicalities of a fire-damaged church and the high-specification of hospital research units. We’d like to congratulate all the contractors that achieved success with Crown at this year’s PDA Awards and can’t wait to support even more talented decorators with their future successes.”
