Crown Paints and Beam Interiors Transform Sports Hub

Glossop North End Community Club in Derbyshire has officially opened a new sports hub featuring a two-team changing pavilion, forming part of Crown Paint’s ambitious ESG strategy, Project Possible.

The project has been delivered thanks to a £1.55 million grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation. It will provide a significant boost to sport in the local area and create an inclusive and welcoming place to play.

The bold design was realised by Helena Harrison, Interior Designer at Beam Interiors, and features striking murals created using colour blocking in bright orange and blue shades inspired by the team’s home and away kits. The work was completed by professional painter and decorator Jade Oakes, winner of Crown’s Apprentice Decorator of the Year 2022 competition.

The project was brought to the attention of Crown by Helena Harrison at Beam Interiors, as part of the brand’s Project Possible, which utilises its expertise and heritage to help transform local spaces like Glossop North End and other grass roots sports clubs in honour of its decade’s long association with top-flight football.

Crown Paints donated over 40 litres of paint to support the project, including Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt, which is ideal for high footfall areas like sports clubs due to its extreme durability, allowing for repetitive cleaning and stain resistance. The paint was colour-matched according to the bespoke requirements of the club at Crown Decorating Centre Stockport.

Richard Bailey, Architect & Design Consultant at Crown Paints, said: “Glossop North End Community Club plays a crucial role in supporting people in the local area, and it was a real honour to support its transformation.

“We know the transformative power that colour, and paint can have, and we’re proud to be able to provide a donation that has helped make the new hub a reality.

“This donation forms part of Project Possible, our ambitious environmental and social strategy, which aims to make a positive impact on community spaces and bring people together.”

In 2023, Crown Trade donated to over 479 community groups and charities across the UK and Ireland, as part of its commitment to recycling, reusing, and repurposing paint to reduce waste.

Ben Mills from Glossop North End Community Club, commented: “It has been amazing to collaborate with Crown Paints and Beam Interiors on this project. They have made a significant difference to grassroots football in the local community.

“The refurbishment has been many years in the making and will offer a home to over 650 players and 45 teams of all ages and abilities at the heart of our community in Glossop. We hope the changing rooms are a special place for home and away teams to visit and the community room will be a place to chat, make friends and enjoy the game!

“A huge thanks to everyone who has worked so hard bringing Glossop Community Sports Hub to life.”
