Crown Decorating Sales Commitment to Coventry

Coventry’s Crown Decorating Centre, for more than 30-years a landmark destination for trade and DIY-ers, has announced new investment in the city, and expansion that will see it move to one of the busiest trading estates.

The relocation will see new jobs created and a 50% increase in store size, a result, says store manager Mark Songhurst, of the recent upswing in the housing market – and a lockdown-boosted focus on home interiors.

The new, bigger store will open on October 11th, having relocated from premises in Challenge Close Business Park.  It will open at 170a Lockhurst Lane Business Park, in the midst of a popular DIY and trade hub on one of Coventry’s main thoroughfares.

In line with its commitment to recycling empty cans through its Can Back initiative, another benefit for shoppers at the new store is that it is the first to have electric vehicle charging facilities, with one 15mins charge enough for a 62-mile journey. This all helps Crown Paints become more sustainable.

The store will celebrate by offering free samples and exclusive promotions to mark the move.

Giveaways during opening week will see treats such as Frogtape masking tape, Hamilton Brushes, Zinsser primers, specialist sealing products from Crown Decorating Centres’ supplier partners.  Crown Decorating Centre will add free quick drying, fast flow satin, primer and undercoat sample pots.  There will also be a chance to win a ‘scuttle of goodies’ in a raffle in aid of Crown Paints’ charity of the year, The Alzheimer’s Society, for customers visiting the store in the first week.

The move has meant in immediate increase in staff (1 additional staff member) with the store looking to recruit more.

Store manager Mark Songhurst added: “This move has been on the cards for quite some time.  The business has outgrown the site and we wanted easier access and more parking for customers.  We remain committed to Coventry.  This is a genuine good news story; we simply can’t fit any more product in the current unit – and demand is increasing. This year’s trading has exceeded, and continues to exceed, expectations.  Coventry has also seen a huge increase in housebuilding, we wanted to make sure housebuilders and the city’s new homeowners have all the service and expertise readily available when and where they need them.”

Coventry’s new Crown Decorating Centre will carry all the retail ranges, Crown Crafted, the Crown Breathe Easy and Easy Clean ranges.

Mark went on: “DIY is bigger than ever, and people are demanding much more of their homes.   Coventry’s quality decorators are busier, with many booked up to the end of the year.  People are becoming more confident about colour and style and are not afraid to invest to get a result they’ll love.  While house sales are booming, many are doing houses up rather than move, and they’re decorating more than just one room.   We have our new, best-yet range, and a great location, so we’ll be showing off just what can be achieved with inspirations and insights, including big hanging colour panels, wallpaper books that can be checked against colour walls – and seen in the daylight pouring in from the new store’s huge windows.”

Coventry Crown Decorating Centre will also be offering a wallpaper book loan service and opening trade accounts.

“We anticipate a surge in the run up to Christmas as people plan for a bumper celebration post-lockdown,” said Mark.

Mark is one of the most experienced in the paint industry, having originally trained in 1995 and gone on to upgrade and refresh his expertise through the company’s Academy.

“This is a massive investment in Coventry, in me as manager, in the store team – and in the city.  It has been a long search to find the right premises,” he said.

The store is currently seeing its fit out near completion as it prepares to welcome customers.
