Three Crown Decorating Centres in Exeter, Blackburn and Cambridge have all done their bit to help their communities by donating paint and sundries to various community projects and charities in their local areas.

Kingsway Meadow Centre, located in West Teignmouth in Devon, in an area made up largely of social housing, provides a number of activities for the whole community, including education, exercise and craft classes for people of all ages. Exeter Crown Decorating Centre donated Crown Trade Full Undercoat and Crown Trade Matt Vinyl to be used to refurbish the centre’s interior.

Sarah Holmes, centre manager at Kingsway Meadow Centre said: “The lack of facilities in the area makes Kingsway Meadow Centre a vital resource for local residents – with many using it on a weekly basis. As a charity we rely on donations for any expansion and renovation projects at the centre, so we’re very grateful to Crown for its donation.

“Since completing the renovation in January, we’ve had great feedback from service users, and there’s an overall feeling that it’s now a much brighter and cleaner space to undertake classes in.”

In Lancashire, Brockholes Nature Reserve, owned and managed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, has also benefited from paint donations from Crown Decorating Centres. The team at Blackburn Decorating Centre donated 25 litres of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Primer Undercoat and 30 litres of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry Satin paint to refresh the space, which sees an average of 200,000 visitors a year, but hadn’t been refurbished since it was opened in 2011. Thanks to Crown Decorating Centres’ free colour mixing service, the site’s restaurant has been painted in purple and yellow shades which were inspired by reeds, daffodils and other wild flowers which can be seen at Brockholes during the spring.

Commenting on the refurbishment so far, Brockholes Nature Reserve’s marketing manager, Victoria McIver said: “We want to make sure all our visitors are getting the best experience possible, and thanks to Crown’s generous donation, we’ve already been able to give the space a new lease of life by creating a more welcoming space for visitors. The refurbishment is a work-in-progress at the moment and we’re excited to see the finished result.”

Cambridge Crown Decorating Centre recently donated Crown Trade Clean Extreme and Crown Trade Eggshell paint in neutral white shades as part of a ‘DIY SOS day’ undertaken by The C3 Church to refurbish the living room, hallway and woodwork of a local resident’s home. The renovation took place during the course of just one day by a team of five voluntary painters and decorators, while the resident and her son were taken out for the day without knowing they’d come back to the surprise of a freshly decorated home.

Becky Campbell, development manager for Look Cambridge, a department within The C3 Church, said: “At Look Cambridge we strive to support people in the local community by offering a range of services, including home refurbishments which heavily rely on volunteers and donations like the paint we received from Cambridge Crown Decorating Centre.

“The family has faced a number of challenges in recent years. They are so pleased with the redecoration and now feel very house proud – even having family to stay for the first time in years since the refurbishment.”
