Colleagues put best foot forward to raise £6,000

Colleagues at a leading decorating and DIY specialist raised more than £6,000 for charity by walking 15 miles across London.

A team of more than 20 from Leyland SDM put their best foot forward to trek for seven hours from Mile End to Kingston upon Thames in aid of The Childhood Trust, London’s child poverty charity.

Suppliers, customers, friends and family all dug deep to support the intrepid group, which passed through Westminster, Chelsea and Fulham before crossing The Thames at Putney Bridge and progressing through Richmond Park, finishing at Leyland SDM’s most southern store in Kingston.

Cliff Rendell, People Director at Leyland SDM, said: “It was a tough challenge and there were certainly sore feet all round by the time we arrived at Kingston. We were encouraged along the way by colleagues at the many Leyland SDM stores we passed so that helped to keep morale high.

“We’re delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for The Childhood Trust and we thank all of our supporters for their generosity.

“The Childhood Trust does amazing work in helping the 700,000 children in London who live in poverty. It’s our privilege to be able to support them in their efforts.”

Leyland SDM, which has 33 stores across London, has raised more than £120,000 for good causes over the last four years.

Laurence Guinness, Chief Executive of The Childhood Trust, said: “We are thrilled to receive this incredible donation from Leyland SDM. It was a tremendous effort to walk across London on a cold November day, so well done to all involved.

“Our most recent research found that the equivalent of 40% of London children are regularly missing meals and going hungry due to the cost-of-living crisis.

“With growing numbers of children falling into poverty we must do all we can to provide support and this money will help us do just that.”

Leyland SDM’s stores stock a comprehensive range of thousands of products across all departments, including paint and decorating essentials, building materials, electrical fittings, tools, plumbing equipment, ironmongery and much more, all under one roof.

Some of the biggest and best-known DIY brands are available at Leyland SDM, including Farrow & Ball, Tesa, Bahco, Bosch, Purdy, Dulux Trade, Leyland Trade, Stanley, Ronseal and DEWALT.
