Dulux Trade has helped to transform a new charity shop for Immingham Dogs Home in Grimsby with the help of Dulux Select Decorator, Andrew Sheasby.
Immingham Dogs Home, which rescues and rehomes dogs across Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas, needed support to turn a former newsagent into a charity shop – and Dulux Trade stepped in to help. As well as donating paint and materials free of charge, Dulux Trade also arranged for Derby-based Dulux Select Decorator, Andrew Sheasby, to complete the redecoration work.
To make the space look and feel like home to the charity, the paint colours were carefully selected to reflect Immingham Dogs Home’s purple and green branding. Pale Olive and Frosted Grape were used to create a fresh and welcoming interior.
However, the project wasn’t without its challenges, and extensive preparation was needed to bring the walls up to standard before decorating could commence. Dulux Trade Aqua UniPrimer was then applied to create a strong foundation for the topcoat.
Andrew applied Dulux Trade Scuffshield Matt throughout the shop, as its durability and scuff resistant technology will help to keep the walls looking fresher for longer. In the kitchen area, the new Dulux Trade Durable Kitchen & Bathroom Eggshell in Roman White was used to help protect against stains, moisture and mould build-up over time.
Andrew Sheasby, Dulux Select Decorator and owner of Sheasby & Son, said: “When I heard about the project, I really wanted to get involved and support such a worthwhile cause.
“Durability was really important on this project, as the charity shop will hopefully see a lot of footfall. I wanted to use products that I could trust to keep the space looking its best, and reduce the need for regular maintenance which could be disruptive to the charity.
“It has been brilliant to help transform the shop into a space the charity can be proud of – and is especially rewarding knowing that it will help support dogs in need.”
Kelly Magee, Trustee at Immingham Dogs Home, said: “Opening this shop is a huge moment for us as a charity, as it will help create a more regular income stream to support the dogs in our care. We’re incredibly grateful to Dulux Trade and Andrew for helping us bring the space to life.
“The support we’ve received has made such a difference and means we can welcome the local community into a bright, fresh store that really reflects who we are.”
The project comes during the 65th anniversary year of the iconic Dulux dog. Dulux recently unveiled Dorothy as the latest Old English Sheepdog to take on the role. For more than four decades, Dulux has supported Old English Sheepdog Rescue & Welfare, helping to raise funds and awareness for dogs in need across the UK. This latest project is another way that Dulux Trade is supporting four-legged friends.
Becky Orton, Dulux Partnerships Marketing Manager at AkzoNobel, added: “At Dulux Trade, we’re passionate about supporting both the decorating community and local projects that make a real difference. The 65thanniversary of the Dulux dog makes our work with Immingham Dogs Home feel particularly meaningful, and we hope it will help the charity continue its work to find safe and loving homes for the animals in its care.”
